SESIONS 3 y 4:
Activity 2:
Music Garden
We have indicated in the introduction that the scenic garden (“Jardín Escénico”) is made of 8 gardens, The music garden is one of them, we find musical instruments, staffs, figures,… in it. The musical figures represent the length of the sound. The figure that represents the musical unit is whole note (semibreve), which lasts four beats. Other figures are half note (minim), quarter note (crotchet), eighth note (quaver), sixteenth note (semiquaver),…
Investigate: The length of the musical figures. In this activity we will investigate everything related to the figures, considering the mathematical relation between them.
Recap the drawing of the different types of figures indicating the relative value, worked in the activity 1. And answer the following questions:
- How many sixteenth note are equal to a quarter note?
- And how many sixteenth note are equal to an eighth note?
Notice: you will have to bear in mind the mathematical relation between the figures. The following links will help you:

Figures
Wikipedia
In this actitvity we are in The Music Garden, among other elements we can see staffs like in the photo. We will concentrate on it to learn and to apply what we have learned about figures … also we continue bearing in mind the mathematical relationships between the figures. After you will answer the following questions refering to the staff of this photo:
- What figures are those that appear in the staff?
- What is the relationship between them?
- Is there a figure which is equivalent to the value of the three figures that appear in the staff?
Nota: La actividad 2 incluye una visita al Jardín escénico (Jardín de la Música), que se realizará al comienzo de la actividad.
